Best Rocking Chair Reviews

1. Haotian Comfortable Rocking Chair

51h7if1yy2L

The Haotian is an indoor rocking chair that perfectly complements neutral toned rooms. It’s crafted from birch wood and PU leather. Overall, the key feature is the five-way adjustable footrests and side pockets for storing items or books.

Highlights

Here’s an overview of the features of the Haitian Comfortable Rocking Chair:

  • Five-Way Adjustable Footrest

To help keep your feet comfortable, the chair has five different angles. Flip the footrest all the way down, slightly up, or up. No matter what, you’ll find an angle that you’ll enjoy while resting or keeping your legs positioned properly for you to fall asleep without them feeling stiff when you wake up.

Plus, the large cushioning helps to prevent scraping at the bottom of the chair and protects your flooring.

  • Stable Frame

The frame is crafted using birch wood and is thick enough to support up to 330 pounds of weight. Although the frame itself weighs 22.05 pounds, which isn’t the easiest to carry, it’s been designed for indoor use. Besides, it has no protective coatings.

  • PU Leather

PU is faux leather and is known to be a good-quality material for furniture. If you’re looking to have an easy-to-clean surface, then this is a good pick. You’ll be able to wipe it down when it gets dirty or disinfect the surface. Water won’t penetrate either because of its natural water-repellent properties.

  • Side Pockets

Located on the right side, there’s a pocket that’s big enough to carry books, magazines, tablets, or other devices. Keep the remote in the pocket, and you’ll never lose it or have to move from your seat to change the channel.

The Good

The Haotian is the ultimate indoor recliner since all the extra features add to its functionality. You can sit back and relax while keeping your TV remote or tablet safely stored in the side pockets. Plus, the anti-scratch layer helps protect your floors, keeping them in great shape.

The Bad

We don’t like the fact that the Haotian Comfortable Rocking Chair is very low to the ground. This may be off-putting, especially to taller individuals. We’d recommend skipping this if you’re height is above 5’ 10”.

Pros:

  • Very comfortable
  • Multiple reclines
  • Easy to clean
  • Storage pockets
  • Comes with detailed assembly instructions

Con:

  • Low-profile design

2. Delta Children Lancaster Rocking Chair

31gq jL3p4L

Whether you’re making an addition to your nursery or planning to put it in your man cave, the Delta Children Lancaster Rocking Chair will surely impress. It has a fully upholstered design, and it’s water resistant, easy to clean, and effortlessly glides back and forth. Besides that, it’s available in three neutral colors that blend in well with any home design.

Highlights

The Delta Children Lancaster Rocking Chair offers the following:

  • Water Repellent Fabric

The chair has been upholstered with LiveSmart Fabric. Using this type of material prevents water or other beverages from seeping in and can help repel other small particles such as dirt, grime, and dust.

  • Sturdy Build

A rocking chair has to be sturdy if you’re going to be rocking in it every day. Luckily, the chair has durable construction and features a wood frame. The frame is then encased with thick upholstery which helps add to the structure and elegance of the chair.

  • Extra Comfort

The chair has been designed with your comfort in mind. The seat cushions feature thick spring coils to help keep the chair bouncy and supportive, which will provide you with lasting comfort.

  • Multiple Colors

Each wood rocking base is crafted using wood, but the fabric comes in three neutral tones namely linen, sisal, and mist. Such a design helps create a comfy and cozy atmosphere.

  • Dimensions and Weight

The chair isn’t as compact, so you may need to clear out space before you purchase it. It has a dimension of 30.8 x 348 x 34.8 inches and an approximate total weight of 50 pounds.

The Good

The best quality of the Delta is that it features a fully upholstered look. This allows it to blend in with other decors perfectly and makes it sort of a “hidden” rocker. The added coils and cushioning also make it perfect for nurseries because you won’t get sore from sitting on it for long periods.

The Bad

The only downside we’ve discovered is that it doesn’t have a full rocking motion. You’ll be able to rock back and forth a bit, but not like a full rocker would. That’s why we only recommend this for those wanting the appearance of the furniture rather than using it as a rocking chair.

Pros:

  • Water resistant
  • Durable and stable
  • Comfortable and supportive
  • Neutral colors
  • Easy to clean

Cons:

  • Takes up space
  • Doesn’t fully rock

3. Windsor Rocking Chair

41tNTJqZTHL

Grandparents used to use these types of rocking chairs until they went out of style. These are the traditional type that features an all wooden build.

You’ll be able to use it indoors and outdoors since it adds a pop of flair and is a stunning conversational piece. Other than that, there are a few upgrades that make it supportive and comfortable.

  • Ornate Elements

The chair features beautifully sculpted curves, contours, and legs. Each section of the rocker has been hand carved which adds to the uniqueness of the chair. Besides that, it features a slightly turned arm and leg which adds to its embellishments and personality.

  • Durable Frame

Rubberwood is a tropical hardwood which is environmentally friendly and holds its shape. To create a unique finishing, Windsor uses a medium brown stain to help give it a distinguished look.

  • Easy Assembly

The chair will have to be assembled and comes in multiple parts. However, it’s not that hard to put together. Luckily, the chair comes with instructions which walk you through each step.

  • Dimensions and Weight

As for the dimensions they are 24.5 x 36.5 x 43.5 inches, and it weighs 39.7 pounds.

The Good

If you’re looking for a traditional style rocker that can be placed indoors or outdoors, you’ll be satisfied with the Windsor. It includes a beautiful design which will draw the attention of your guests as it looks like it’s been handcrafted and passed down through the family.

The Bad

The downside we’ve found is that the chair doesn’t last long. Overall, it will wear down and break after a few years of sitting on it daily.

Pros:

  • Traditional style
  • Blends well in any home
  • Good and gentle rocking motion
  • Easy assembly
  • Durable and comfortable
  • Provides enough back support

Cons:

  • Short longevity
  • No cushions

4. Lakeland Mills Cedar Log Rocking Chair

41V2eVnMs9L

Lakeland Mills offers a wide range of outdoor and indoor rocking chairs. The Cedar Log Rocking Chair is crafted using insect and weather resistant white cedar wood. It gives it a unique Timberwood appearance and is perfect for placing in your front porch.

Highlights

The things you’ll expect from the Lakeland Mills Cedar Log Rocking Chair include:

  • Sturdy Framework

The whole chair is crafted using high-quality cedar wood. It’s known for its durable properties and is somewhat resistant to certain environmental factors. All wood is sustainably sourced and already grows on wood farms.

  • Appealing Design

As for the design, it is similar to Adirondack chairs and includes a wide seat area. This gives you a bit of extra space to move around or place pillows on.

  • Controlled Rocking

The rocking is also very smooth and controlled which you won’t find in many other rocking chairs. It glides smoothly back and forth and when your feet come to a stop so does the chair.

  • Dimensions and Weight

The entire chair has the dimensions of 42 x 31 x 41 inches and weighs approximately 41.2 pounds. It’s a bit bigger and heavier than other rocking chairs, but that’s likely because it’s made from real wood.

The Good

The wide seating is perfect for those of more prominent statue or who want a bit of extra space. Plus, it gives you enough room to add pillows, cushions, or a blanket to sit on.

The Bad

The only issue is that the assembly will take you at least an hour and is a bit complicated. Besides that, there’s also no cushioning build into the rocker, which can cause your lower and backside to go sore after a while.

Pros:

  • Beautiful and natural-looking
  • Wide seating
  • Durable
  • Smooth rocking
  • Made in the USA
  • Easy assembly instructions

Cons:

  • Long assembly time
  • No cushioning

The Good

The Bad

The biggest letdown is that the chair isn’t designed to be comfortable because they are making it for kids. You could try and throw a cushion or pillow on it, but that leaves little space to sit. We’d only recommend this for toddlers or young children.

Pros:

  • Beautifully handcrafted
  • Quick setup
  • Lightweight
  • Perfect for children
  • Smooth rocking motion

Con:

  • No cushioning

Buyer’s Guide

In this section, we will introduce you to a few of the buying considerations you should be aware of before you purchase a rocking chair. There are plenty of rocking chairs out there, but we did our best to provide you information that relates to all of the available chairs. If you keep these key elements in mind, then you can’t go wrong with choosing one.

1. Types

Rocking chairs come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and designs. Overall, you’ll have trouble choosing if you don’t know what each type does. That’s why we’ve created a quick rundown of five types we commonly see on the market.

  • Traditional rocking chair: The first type is a conventional rocker which features curved legs and armrests. It is usually the most cost-efficient and tends to be crafted from real wood. With this, you get a full range of rocking, but they tend to get uncomfortable after a while.
  • Glider rocking chair: A glider rocking chair is similar to a recliner and looks like an average piece of upholstered seating. However, it has levers and hinges to help control the rocking. You can find compact versions, but they do tend to cost more than traditional ones.
  • Spring rocking chair: This is a mix of both traditional rockers and a glider. It rocks back and forth, except it is placed on top of mounted springs and doesn’t rock fully back and forth. The only issue is that it comes in a wide variety of styles and designs. Plus, they tend to cost the most because of their complicated engineering.
  • Swivel rocking chair: A swivel rocker uses a full rocking chair but features an upholstered recliner on top. These chairs can swivel in each direction and are more comfortable than your generic rocker. Although, because of the wide range of designs, they tend to cost a lot but are well worth the investment.
  • Reclining rocking chair: The last type is the reclining rocking chair which is a combination of a rocker and a recliner. It often doesn’t have a full range of motion and tends to focus more on the reclining elements. However, we would recommend these for those needing a safer type of seating.

2. Durability

Every rocker has its lifespan, which makes it hard to pinpoint exactly how long each chair would last. As a general rule, you can expect most wooden frames to last up to five years if properly maintained and used regularly. Other chairs such as reclining, swivel, and indoor types tend to last a lifetime but will wear down over time.

3. Appearance

The appearance is also different depending on what type you choose to purchase. You can ideally find a wide range of aesthetically pleasing rocking chairs ranging from modern to traditional. If you’re looking for a handmade wooden chair or a fully upholstered seat, then you can find either type online.

4. Comfort

Comfort is the main factor you want to keep an eye out for because many rockers tend to lack this factor. Any cushioning, spring coils, or padding is key to sitting back and relaxing. If you’re choosing to invest in a traditional rocker or camping or event chair, then also make sure you check for padded armrests.

5. Weight

Weight can range anywhere from two to 50 pounds depending on the materials used. Wood, iron, and steel tend to produce heavier rocking chairs, and added upholstery makes the chair even heavier. It depends on how big the rocking chair is, what type of materials are used, and if you intend to move it.

6. Price

While it may be tempting to choose one of the cheaper priced rocking chairs, you’ll soon regret your choice when the chair frame breaks. You are getting what you pay for, which means the price will reflect how sturdy the chair is. While you don’t want to go overboard, choose a chair no less than $50 since these will be the most stable.

Rocking Chair FAQs

1. How to Build a Rocking Chair

Building a rocking chair requires immaculate detailing and patience as you’ll be crafting every part piece by piece. They make beautiful gifts and if adequately crafted can be passed down from generation to generation.

While we can’t type out the whole process, we can give you two different video guides that list the steps. The first video is by French River Springs, and he demonstrates his entire process on how he builds rocking chairs from scratch.

The next video is by Chop With Chris who walks you through the whole process of building your own rocking chair, including picking the type of wood. His tutorial is excellent for beginners or those who don’t have much experience with woodwork.

2. How to Tell How Old a Rocking Chair Is

There are hundreds of rocking chairs that are brand new, been refurbished, or some that have been passed down from generation to generation. But how do you know how old your chair is? Just as there are methods to telling how old a tree is by the color and shape of the wood, you can also tell from the different components of a rocking chair.

First, check to see if all the upholstery, joints, and bolts are attached. If they seem to be sturdy, then you may be looking at a refurbished or newly crafted rocking chair. By closer inspection, you should be able to tell from the color and shade of the wood. If it’s crafted using real wood, then you most likely have an older chair, especially if the wood is starting to splint.

As a general guideline, if you can see wood splinting, cracking, or other damages, then it may be a few decades old. Once a wooden chair reaches seven years or more, you’ll see signs of damage. With modern rocking chairs, they will begin to rust after three to five years.

3. How to Reupholster a Rocking Chair

Every rocking chair is different which makes it a bit harder to learn how to reupholster a rocking chair thoroughly. However, we can give you a detailed video that walks you through all the steps. Here’s a video from Now That I’m a Mother on how to reupholster your rocking chair by DYing your rocking chair slipcover.

4. How to Paint a Rocking Chair

Painting a rocking chair is similar to painting your walls or any other type of project. You’ll need a primer, weather resistant coating or powder, and then the color of your choice. If you’re working with metal frames, you will have an easy time applying the paint.

If you’re using wood, then you may need to get a wood tint or prime the frame before you apply the final layer of paint. Always paint outside in a big and open space; that way, you don’t get any of the fumes in your home.

  1. Clean the rocking chair by wiping it down with mild soap and water or other disinfectant wipes. If you have detachable upholstery, you can take these off and wash them by hand.
  2. After this, take some primer or wood tint and apply it all over the frame.
  3. Allow this to dry for up to six to 24 hours.
  4. Once that coating is dry, you can then take the weather-resistant powder and apply it over the primer. This may take a few layers, but as long as you follow the instructions on the can, it shouldn’t be a problem.
  5. After this dries, then continue by applying your final layer of paint. Wait for the last layer to dry for up to 24 to 48 hours before taking it back into your home.

5. How to Fix a Squeaky Rocking Chair

We all know that squeaky rocking chair noise that drives us insane. To help prevent this from occurring, it’s best to apply some lubricant or oil to the joints. Even if you’re working with a wooden rocking chair, it’s bound to get dry and start to crack.

That’s where the oil comes in handy. You can find wood oil or other chair lubricants at your local hardware store and apply those once a year.

Verdict

As you can see, there are plenty of rocking chairs out there, which makes it hard to choose just one. We tend to believe that the best rocking chair would have to be the Delta Children Lancaster Rocking Chair.

It includes a sturdy build, is compact enough to have in your home, and effortlessly glides back and forth. Plus, the extra cushioning and neutral colors make it a great addition to any living space. Anyways, we hope that this has helped you find the best rocking chair in 2020.
